The Club Story

Ayr Basketball Club was originally instigated as the Digital Basketball Club in 1996 by a small number of employees of Digital Equipment Corporation (Scotland). It rapidly outgrew the confines of the company as non-employees began to come along to training.

The club joined the Strathclyde Basketball Association and has been participating in competitive basketball since the 97/98 season.

In the 1999/2000 season the club was renamed from Digital BC to Ayr BC and the team took the name Ayr Storm. The club was now truly independent from its roots.

In 2011 the club won its first trophy—SLBA Consolation Cup.  In the same year the club invited a ladies youth club in Ayr to be part of Ayr BC.

This year our first Ayr youth teams—U14 boys and U14 girls teams played in the west RDL.  We were also selected as a pilot for Future Clubz.

The Basketball Festival was then held for 6 South Ayrshire Primary schools in 2012.

Our Girls U16 team played in National League in 2012 and the same year our U12 mixed team entered in West RDL.

The Club launched its first t-shirts and hoodies merchandise in 2012 as well.

In 2013 the Clubs' biggest Awards Night was held—racenight, fundraiser and awards to MIP and MVP from 4 teams run in the 2012-13 season.

That year we also had our first club players involved in Scotland squads—Eleanor in U16W, Paul in U11 development.  In fact, Eleanor was selected as the All European 5 Team and later selected for GB SR Women in 2015.

During the course of the 2013-14 season Ayr Storm was fortunate enough to have a few more Scotland Selections:  U12 Abbie Middleton, U14 Megan Jones and Rebecca Morrison.

What Makes us Ayr Storm...

Vision

The Ayr Storm vision is to positively impact the lives of the people of Ayrshire by providing an outlet in the form of Basketball.  To have a presence of Basketball in every Primary School or Academy in Ayrshire, helping to create healthy, confident young men and women.

Mission

To create the best basketball players we can through positive training, encouragement and hard work.  We believe through basketball we can offer our youth and senior section the ability to grow as individuals and give each member a supportive place to push themselves and prepare themselves for the challenges life will present to them.  We hope our players, coaches, families and friends learn to work hard, have fun and hopefully make a few new friends along the way.

"I have failed over and over again in my life... and that is why I have succeeded."
